California Street Fight Involving Bat and Metal Rod Leads to Arrest

A California man has been taken into custody after a brutal street fight in which a bat and a metal rod were used.

According to KSEE, a bystander caught the incident on camera, which shows two men fighting in the middle of the street with one man being knocked out.

The suspect kept hitting the man after being knocked unconscious.

Some time later, KFSN says the suspect was arrested, and the victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive, but he may need surgery.

On Tuesday, Fresno Police arrested 61-year-old Phillip Ray Lester and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said the two men were homeless and that Lester started the fight.

“[Lester] went to the other homeless person’s camping area began tearing down his tent,” Fresno Police Lt. Mark Hudson told the station. “That’s when the victim confronted him, and that’s when the suspect began striking him with a baseball bat.”

Online records show that he is being held on a bond of $20,000.
